About
The Abortion Inquiry seeks to:
Gather data, testimonies, and the experiences of:
• Women who have undergone an abortion
• Families who have felt pressured or pushed towards abortion after a diagnosis of a disability
• Whistle-blowers who wish to report what they have seen happen in abortion centres
• Medical Professionals whose right to conscientious objection is not being respected
Currently in Ireland very little data is being collected on the outcomes of the 2018 abortion legislation. There is no central national system in place to identify and report when women experience adverse outcomes after using abortion pills, for example. Some families with babies who have had a diagnosis of severe disability have felt ill-informed by medical professionals and pressured towards abortion. Medical professionals who don’t want to partake in abortion can feel their conscience rights are being ignored.
The Abortion Inquiry offers the chance to share that story – while keeping your details completely confidential.
This can be done by:
• Completing a questionnaire which will be available online. The questionnaire for these instances will be managed by a medical professional in the strictest confidence and according to GDPR guidelines.
• Alternatively, you can share information or a testimony by submitting that in writing; or over the phone; or in an in-person interview (whichever you would prefer) where with your consent we will audio record your story and transcribe it afterwards at which point we will then give it to you to have you read and approve it before publication, anonymously or otherwise.
All data involved with the Abortion Inquiry will be collected, handled, and processed according to General Data Protection Regulation in Ireland. All interviews, unless you indicate otherwise, will be treated as confidential but will be done for the purposes of being published – so your story will be told however the participant will remain anonymous unless otherwise indicated by you the participant.
For more information about the way we use and handle personal data, please check the Privacy Notice.
Publication
All stories submitted and all data collected via the online questionnaire will be published in a report published by the Abortion Inquiry. As mentioned previously, your name and other personal information will be kept completely confidential and will not be shared in the report unless otherwise directed by you.
